Man found dead in car may be suspect in Quebec shooting that killed 2

The manhunt for a suspect wanted in connection with a triple-shooting in Marieville, Que., appears to be over after police found the body of a man they believe to be the suspect inside a car near a local pond.

According to Quebec provincial police they found the body in Roxton Pond, about 45 minutes away from where the shootings took place. The Sûreté du Québec has not confirmed the man’s identity but believe it to be that of 59-year-old suspect Daniel Massé. The body was recovered from a black Volkswagen Jetta.

Police had warned residents of Marieville on Thursday morning to be on the lookout for Masse, who was wanted in connection with a shooting Wednesday evening at a scrapyard around 6 p.m. that left two men dead and seriously injured a third man.

According to the SQ, a 47-year-old father of three was shot several times, but managed to make it back to his parents’ house a short distance away.

He was rushed to hospital where is now in stable condition.

Residents of Marieville, located about 45 kilometres east of Montreal, are being allowed to return to their homes.
