TORONTO — Rap star Drake gives a shout-out to his hometown in a new video for Sprite that debuted Wednesday on TheFader.com.
“Toronto is the reason I do this,” Drake says as shots of the city flash on screen. “All I did was find a way to make people proud of our city.
“The artists from our city, their whole objective was to get out. So I just had to flip that way of thinking.”

Drake says he and artists like The Weeknd are proof that you don’t need to go to New York City to get a career going.
“That’s dead now. Do it from where you’re at,” he says.
In the video, Drake explainss the key is to have talent that goes beyond rap.
“Just rapping is not really that impressive anymore,” he says. “There just has to be more. You have to be a multilayered artist.”

“I’m worried about the kid that’s sitting in his house that wants to be better than me and all those guys. That’s who I’m competing with now. That’s how I try to keep pushing us forward. Just to let that kid know that I’m not done yet.”
