Truck falls off Île aux Tourtes bridge in Montreal

WATCH ABOVE: Emergency crews had to look down to find the truck submerged in the water.

MONTREAL – Traffic in the west island was jammed for several hours Friday morning after a tractor trailer truck fell off the Île aux Tourtes bridge on Highway 40 west.

At around 6:30 a.m., the Transport Hervé Lemieux driver hit a cement rail on the bridge and lost control of his truck.

He was rescued by a passing fisherman and taken to hospital by emergency crews.

“It’s still too soon to know what caused the accident,” said Jean-François Pagé, General Manager at Transport Hervé Lemieux.

“An internal inquiry is currently underway.”

The driver suffered a few minor injuries and is currently in hospital with his family.
