EDMONTON — Homicide detectives are leading the investigation into a violent attack that left a man clinging to life. The man in his 50s was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being assaulted in west Edmonton early Wednesday morning.

Police were called to the Aurora Motel just off 111 Avenue and 151 Street around 1:45 a.m. after receiving reports someone had been injured. The severely-beaten man was found lying outside the front doors of the motel.

Investigators believe he may have been involved in an altercation, and don’t believe the assault happened at the motel. A large area around the motel was blocked off, and blood could be seen on a door.

The owner of the Aurora Motel says the attack didn’t happen at the motel. According to owner Kelly Saleh, the victim came to the motel after the attack, which is where an Aurora employee found the victim and called police.

“Yes, he saved his life,” says Saleh.

“It didn’t happen on our property. But we were just the neighbours and the helpers, and we did help.”

A nearby vehicle was being considered as one place the attack may have occurred. Police didn’t say if there are any suspects.
