REGINA – A 58-year-old Regina man is recovering from brain surgery after a violent home invasion on Ottawa Street near 5th Avenue North over the weekend.
Steve Predinchuk was sleeping when four masked men allegedly broke into his home around 1:30 a.m. Sunday and came into his bedroom. He said the four suspects were armed with various weapons.
One of the suspects pointed a gun at his face and asked for money.
He said he opened his safe and complied; however, before leaving one of the suspects hit him in the head with what he believes was an axe.
“What are you gonna do? I just did what they wanted and they still hit me,” said Predinchuk. “They hit me a couple times in the head and then he hit me with an axe and it was just bleeding. I was in a daze. I just know they fractured my skull.”
Predinchuk said thankfully, his neighbour had fallen asleep in his living room because he was barely able to speak or dial 9-1-1.

“He was bleeding profusely. He probably had a hole in his head about the size of a quarter. It was gushing out. Blood was everywhere,” said neighbour Daren Dieter.
Predinchuk said he’s on blood thinners, so he thinks that’s why he lost so much blood.
His neighbour drove him to the hospital where Predinchuk ended up having brain surgery and released four days later.
The Regina Police Service said no charges against the suspects have been laid, but officers are investigating.
“What we have is a description of four males between about 21 and 25 years of age, wearing each of them black jeans and a black jacket,” said Elizabeth Popowich with the Regina Police Service.
Predinchuk said he doesn’t know who would do this to him.
