UPDATE: Police have identified the man involved in this incident, and confirmed his presence in the area was legitimate. Officers say the man was in the area to take his child to school

CALGARY – Police are warning the public about a disturbing case of potential luring in the community of Sundance.

Officers were contacted after a young girl was seen walking backwards away from a parked truck on her way to school around 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

An adult who knew the child was driving by at the time, and noticed that she seemed scared. The adult stopped and picked the girl up, driving her the rest of the way to school.

The child told the adult that they had seen the same truck parked near the intersection of Suncrest Way S.E. and Suncastle Drive S.E. six times in the past two weeks, and that the man appeared to be watching her walk to school.

The vehicle is described as a newer-model, black Ford truck, with side steps, a Calgary Flames logo in the rear window and Calgary Flames flags on the back passenger windows.

The driver is described as a man in his mid-20s with red hair, a goatee and a baseball cap.

Anyone with information about the vehicle or driver is asked to call the Calgary Police Service non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers.

Police encourage all parents to talk to their children about what to do when a stranger is making them feel uncomfortable, and how to tell the difference between a stranger they can ask for help – such as police officers, Transit drivers, teachers or other parents – and a stranger who might be dangerous.
