SASKATOON – An investigator says a house fire that began Saturday morning was accidental. At 7:10 a.m., the Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a report of possible house fire at 220 Ave. E South.
Initial information indicated there was possibly someone inside the house. Crews immediately initiated an offensive attack while simultaneously completing a search.
No occupants ended up being in the home at the time of the fire. The homeowners and the other occupant showed up to the scene during operations.
The fire was contained to the kitchen and was under control around 20 minutes after crews arrived.
An investigator determined the fire started in a toaster oven in the kitchen.
Damage is estimated at $75,000 and no injuries were reported.
The Saskatoon Fire Department is reminding people to regularly check smoke detectors to ensure the devices are in good working order.
