Saskatoon police dog dies after being struck by vehicle

SASKATOON – Saskatoon Police Service is mourning the loss of a member of its canine unit. Matrix, a two-year-old Belgian Malinois, was killed Thursday while getting ready for a training exercise.

Police say Matrix and his handler were preparing for the exercise on the west side of Warman Road behind Woodlawn Cemetery around 9:45 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle.

He died a short time later.

Matrix was in specialized bomb detection training and had been on active duty since August 2014.
