Police were called to the 1700 block of 28th Street S.W. around 8 p.m.
The victim was found in the back of an apartment building, suffering from a gunshot wound.
He has undergone emergency surgery but remains in critical condition Monday afternoon.
Police have no suspects in custody at this time, and spokesman Kevin Brookwell said the victim is not currently cooperating with police.
