The Barron joins Blue Bombers coaching staff

WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have added one of the best defensive backs to ever play in the Canadian Football League to the teams coaching staff.  The Bombers announcing they have hired Barron Miles as the club’s new defensive backs coach.  He held the same position with the Saskatchewan Roughriders the past three seasons under new Bombers defensive coordinator Richie Hall.

“I’m extremely excited to come over to Winnipeg and work with such a strong group of defensive backs,” said Miles through a media release. “I really believe this group is one of the league’s best and with such athletic and versatile players in the secondary, I look forward to helping them grow and ultimately having our unit help us in being successful as a team.”

Miles played 12 seasons in the CFL with the Montreal Alouettes and the B.C. Lions. He won 2 Grey Cups as a player and another as a coach with the Riders in 2013.  Miles was a nine-time division all-star and was named a CFL all-star six times.  His 66 career interceptions is 2nd all-time and he’s the CFL’s career leader for blocked kicks.  He retired following the 2009 season accepting a position as defensive assistant with the Lions which he held for two seasons.

“Barron brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our organization,” said Head Coach Mike O’Shea. “He was so good in our league for so long, he can relate to players very well, and that’s a great asset to have on your coaching staff. We’re thrilled to have him on board.”

Nelson Martin held the position last season where the Bombers gave up the 2nd least passing yards in the league.
