REGINA – A Swift Current RCMP member is facing several drug related charges for allegedly selling cocaine and ecstasy.
RCMP officer Michael Chachula, on the force for nearly seven years, was arrested Monday and has been charged with Trafficking Cocaine and Trafficking MDMA/Ecstasy.
Last April, RCMP received a criminal complaint regarding Chachula. The alleged crimes happened in the RCMP jurisdiction and would have been normally investigated by Mounties, but to remain fair and impartial, the Moose Jaw Police conducted the investigation.
During the Moose Jaw Police investigation, more information about Chachula’s alleged drug trafficking was uncovered that needed to be further investigated.
An external investigation by another police force was considered, but since the investigation required special resources and expertise it was decided that the RCMP would investigate the new allegations.
In October RCMP began investigating and today’s charges against Chachula were the eventual result. He was suspended immediately, and an internal code of conduct review was also initiated.
Chachula is scheduled to make his first court appearance in Swift Current on February 18th.
