HALIFAX – An RCMP officer with ties to Nova Scotia who was shot in Alberta on Saturday remains in hospital fighting for his life.
Const. David Wynn and fellow officer Aux. Const. Derek Walter Bond were confronting a suspect about a stolen vehicle at the Apex Casino in St. Albert, when the suspect opened fire.

Bond, 49, was taken to hospital with serious injuries but has since been released. Wynn, 42, was said to be in “very grave” condition, according to RCMP.
As of 4:30 p.m. on Monday, the RCMP said there had been no change in his condition.
Wynn used to live in Bridgewater, N.S. and worked with various organizations. He also lived in Miramichi, N.B.
People in Bridgewater say they were shocked by the news.
“He is well-respected in the community, so it’s a really tragic day, a sad day for I think all first responders,” said Mayor David Walker. “We take for granted their response and what they do for a living. It enforces how dangerous their line of work can be and how unexpected tragedy can be.”

Walker said it’s important to focus on what communities can do to ensure first responders are as safe as possible.
Bridgewater Police Chief John Collyer has known Wynn and his family for years.
“I know certainly in my career, Dave and I went on many calls together,” he said. “He was a good man and obviously we were shocked and deeply saddened to hear what happened.”
