YORKTON, Sask. – A man has been arrested after threatening to blow up the Yorkton, Sask. RCMP detachment. Mounties say the man made the threats on Facebook around noon on Wednesday.

A search of the detachment for explosive devices, which includes city hall, was carried out along with a search of the rural detachment. Nothing was turned up.

The apartment building where the man lives has been evacuated. The member of the explosive device unit will search the building on Thursday.

“We have to take this very seriously,” said RCMP Cpl. Kim Stewart. “You just never know with people. We are making sure that we are safe and that the public is safe.”

Charges are pending against the 40-year-old man. He is scheduled to appear in Yorkton provincial court on Thursday.
