WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers continued their off-season makeover Tuesday by signing pending free agent Demond Washington and veteran Dominic Picard.
Washington has spent his entire three-year CFL career with the Bombers. During that time, the international defensive back racked up 179 defensive tackles, 10 special teams tackles, four sacks, three interceptions and three fumble recoveries while starting 41 games. Washington has also left his mark on Winnipeg’s special teams by returning 78 kickoffs for 1,762 yards and one touchdown. He also hauled back 78 punts for 781 yards and three touchdowns.

“Demond is, in our opinion, one of the most athletic players in our league,” said Bombers general manager Kyle Walters. “His versatility to play different positions in the secondary and add a dynamic element on special teams makes him a great asset for us.”
Washington is the third pending free agent the Bombers have re-signed this off-season. Thirteen other players are scheduled to go to market when free agency opens Feb. 10.
The Blue and Gold have also brought in Picard — just minutes after the Saskatchewan Roughriders announced his release. The national offensive lineman was originally drafted by Winnipeg in 2006 and played with the Bombers until 2008. The nine-season CFL veteran has played in 137 regular-season games and two Grey Cups, winning one. He was also named an East Division All-Star in 2011.
“This is a player with great experience in the CFL,” said Walters. “He is a tough, hard-nosed football player, and we are excited to bring him into the Bombers organization.”
