Alberta man facing charges in connection to attempted abduction

EDMONTON – Red Deer RCMP have laid charges against a man accused of assaulting and attempting to abduct a 13-year-old girl.

Police say Alexander Beaulieu, 29, approached a girl near the G.H. Dawe Centre in Red Deer on Monday afternoon. He then allegedly attempted to pull her in to a truck he was driving after asking to use her iPhone. Police say Beaulieu hit, kicked and choked the girl, but she fought back and managed to get away.

Beaulieu is also facing charges of choking with intent, robbery, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, possessing stolen property under $5,000, and theft under $5,000.

He has been taken into custody and will appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on Jan. 2.
