HALIFAX – The Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) has concluded a Halifax police officer who pleaded guilty to assault will not face additional charges.
SIRT, the police watchdog, was contacted January 27 after a possible domestic assault involving Cst. Jason Marriott and asked to investigate other possible incidents.
The incident took place between 4:30 a.m. and 5:40 a.m. at an apartment building lobby in downtown Halifax.

The report from SIRT states, “Video evidence and evidence from the complainant indicates that Cst. Marriott took actions which could be considered an assault on the complainant.”
Marriott pled guilty to one count of assault on September 22. He will be sentenced December 16.
The complainant provided three other statements about incidents that allegedly occurred prior to the one on January 27.
SIRT said it investigated the allegations but stated, “It was determined the evidence did not disclose a sufficient basis to consider any further charges.”
The team investigates all serious incidents related to the actions of police in the province.
