‘High-risk travellers’ arrested in Calgary last year

Three people who may have been trying to get to Syria were apprehended at the Calgary airport last year.

The three, according to the National Post, are on an RCMP ‘high-risk travellers’ list.

They are: 19-year-old Naomi Mahdere, 22-year-old Ali Arubaker, and 20-year-old Hamza Omer.

Police charged the two men and a woman with falsifying documents on their passport applications.

They were found guilty and fined.

Mahdere was also found guilty of breaching an order that the three have no contact with each other after their arrest.

She received an extra day in jail.

Two other people from Windsor, Ontario who on the RCMP list were also charged with passport fraud.

No other details regarding the trio and their travelling plans have been released.
