Critically injured man pulled from car after northeast crash

CALGARY – One man was rushed to hospital in critical condition on Sunday after crashing his car into a tree.

It happened around 10 p.m. in the area of Temple Drive and 52nd Street N.E.

When they arrived, emergency crews found a Toyota Echo wrapped around a tree with the driver trapped inside.

Firefighters were able to extricate the driver, a man in his 20s, and turn him over to EMS for treatment. He was conscious and breathing but seriously injured.

Witnesses told police the vehicle was traveling southbound on 52 Street at a high rate of speed, when the driver appeared to lose control. The Toyota left the roadway and struck two trees.

It’s unknown if alcohol may have been a factor in the collision.
