Sask. RCMP find stolen cattle missing for over half a decade

BIGGAR, Sask. – Saskatchewan RCMP recovered livestock and their offspring from a rural fenced pasture in Saskatchewan last week.

On Sept. 11, Livestock Service of Saskatchewan informed RCMP of stolen cows were grazing amongst a herd in the Rural Municipality of Glenside.

A brand inspection confirmed the complaint and a search warrant was executed by RCMP on Sept. 18.

Police seized five cow/calf pairs with an estimated value between $13,000 to $15,000.

The five cows have been missing since 2008.

Livestock Services of Saskatchewan estimates the stolen cows’ offspring to be valued around $17,500.

Joann Vayro, 49, from Sonningdale, Sask., has been charged with five counts of fraudulently keeping cattle found astray. She is scheduled to make her first court appearance on Nov. 5.

The animals are in good condition and are being looked after by Livestock Services of Saskatchewan.
