Search underway in Nanaimo for 72-year-old missing canoeist

VANCOUVER – Nanaimo RCMP and Search and Rescue crews are currently looking for a 72-year-old man whose canoe was found late Tuesday afternoon on Second Lake.

The man lives in a cabin on the lake and his family told police he has been experiencing some medical issues lately that have caused them to become concerned.

His family went to his cabin on Tuesday and after they did not find him, called police.

His canoe was found on a sandbar near the bridge.

The RCMP Dive team has also been contacted and are prepared to begin searching the lake Thursday morning if necessary.
