Man buys legal recreational marijuana, loses job after media coverage

TORONTO – The first person to buy legal recreational pot in Spokane, Washington claims he lost his job just hours after buying his first bag of weed because of media coverage.

Michael Boyer lined up outside the Green Leaf dispensary Monday, almost 20 hours before the shop opened, to ensure he would be the first person in the city to purchase recreational marijuana.

“Why not? It’s history right here, might as well be the guy to be the first one here,” Boyer told KREM 2 News.

Boyer said a client spotted him on TV and complained to his employer.

“As of 2:30 p.m. today, I’m unemployed from my company,” Boyer said.

He claimed he received a text from his boss, asking him to take a drug test. Boyer said he took the test and failed.

“It’s something we are going to have to figure out with all this legalization, where is there going to be the grey line,” Boyer said.

He is still proud of the fact he will go down in history as the first person to buy legal recreational pot in Spokane.

“I am number one and nobody can take that.”
