SASKATOON – The Government of Saskatchewan is extending funding for its Aboriginal Bursary Program to help post-secondary First Nations students achieve higher education.

“Financial demands are one of the top three reasons that students leave their studies,” said Donna Harpauer, Saskatchewan’s CIC minister.

“These bursaries will go a long way toward reducing that pressure.”

Up to 85 bursaries worth $5,000 each can be granted annually.

Eligible students must maintain a 70 per cent average, have been a Saskatchewan resident for a year and be registered in at least 12 credit hours per semester.

Undergraduate registered students must be Status Indian, non-status Indian, Métis or Inuit.

The bursary program is available at both of the province’s universities, SIIT, SIAST and Lakeland College. For application information, people can refer to the websites for each institution.

The Aboriginal Bursary Program began in 2004.
