Chase ends after stolen vehicle rams Saskatoon police car

SASKATOON – Two people from Manitoba have been charged after a stolen vehicle chase ended in downtown Saskatoon on Friday.

Just before noon, Saskatoon police were alerted by RCMP and Corman Park police that chase involving a stolen vehicle from Manitoba was entering the city.

The chase was terminated for public safety reasons once the vehicle entered the city; however, a description was broadcast to all units.

At 3:45 p.m., police observed the suspect vehicle downtown and were able to surround it at 24th Street and 1st Avenue.

As officers approached, the suspect driver rammed a police vehicle in an attempt to drive away.

Officers were able to break the driver’s side window and remove the man from the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

A 21-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were arrested.

Both are facing charges of possession of stolen property.

The man is facing additional charges of assaulting police officers, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and driving while disqualified.

Police continue to investigate and more charges may be laid.
