Brantford police say its officers ran out of paper tickets when they charged 26 drivers trying to get around a collision earlier this week.
Police said in a Facebook post on Wednesday that earlier that day, traffic on Highway 403 was backed up due to a collision.
Officers attended the scene at Garden Avenue, and the force said they found drivers heading down the wrong way on a one-way on-ramp to bypass the traffic.

Police handed out tickets to 26 drivers: 24 were charged with driving the wrong way on a one-way, two were charged with backing up on an on-ramp and one was charged with driving without a licence.
The force added the fine for driving the wrong way on a one-way street is $110 and three demerit points.

“In fact, officers handed out so many tickets that they actually ran out of printer paper in the cruiser,” police said in the Facebook post.
“A reminder: if traffic is backed up due to a collision, the safest and fastest option is usually the least exciting one — wait your turn and follow the rules of the road. Driving the wrong way on an on-ramp isn’t a shortcut … it’s a ticket.”

Should charge the police with impeding traffic. Its only a one way when its regular traffic, police have many times used roadways against traffic to mitigate backups. It was a choice to make money instead.
Stop making it sound like It’s dangerous. Everyone is at a comete stop. It’s understandable as our police are completely useless and it takes them 4 hours to divert traffic so people started doing it themself. Our government is to blame for this. Luckily for me I’m on the clock once I leave the shop in my work truck so I enjoy the relaxing time sitting there but most people don’t.
If the on-ramp was already closed due to the collision; couldn’t have the officer instead of handing out tickets direct traffic to alleviate some of the congestion by letting people off the highway?
I don’t get why everyone is held hostage when the situation is already managed.
I was recently directed and assisted by police to use the “on ramp” to exit the 401. So were hundreds of other vehicles in Pickering. 401 was shut down.
Maybe the cops should do their job instead of waiting to hand out a ticket. Guaranteed at least one officer could have directed traffic but instead stood there doing nothing.
Police acting like it was a simple traffic jam meanwhile the cars were stranded for over 3 hours. Instead of writing tickets clear the road.
How about they do their job and clear the damn road! Those people were stuck for over 3 hours! What a money grab. Useless police officers.
How many politicians are being charged for allowing East Indian schools to gift AZ licenses to new East Indian immigrants? Special testing or no testing and away you go. Government covers 30 to 50 percent of the wages and pushes out qualified drivers.

Instead of spending time writing tickets maybe they should have set up an escape route for trapped drivers. oops my bad there is no money in that.
