OTTAWA – A 17-year-old Ottawa girl convicted of a long list of charges in connection with a teenage prostitution ring will face sentencing Oct. 20.
The date was the earliest that all of the lawyers involved were available.
The girl, who was identified as the “ringleader” of the group, was found guilty of 30 charges last month, including human trafficking, forcible confinement, assault, robbery and child luring.

Court heard the teen used Facebook and other social media to befriend other girls aged 13 to 17, then forced them to work as escorts.
Justice Diane Lahaie told the lawyers she was disappointed there would be such a long adjournment before sentencing in the case which first entered the trial phase back in April 2013.

Arguments are expected to take five full days and Crown lawyers are planning to call at least three witnesses in their bid to have the girl sentenced as an adult.
The girl will be 18 by the time she’s sentenced and will likely serve any remaining time in an adult facility. She has been in police custody since she was arrested in June 2012.
Two other teens accused in the case pleaded guilty to several charges in September.
