Wildfire near Sooke Potholes grows to 50 hectares, park remains closed

A wildfire burning near the Sooke Potholes Regional Park has grown to 50 hectares in size.

The park and campground remained closed on Tuesday, as the Old Man Lake fire remained out of control.

The Capital Regional District evacuated the Salmon Springs Campground as a precaution Monday evening and urged people to avoid the area.

The District of Sooke said the popular attraction was closed until further notice while local emergency crews and the BC Wildfire Service responded.

The BC Wildfire Service said it had deployed four initial attack crews, three response officers and three helicopters.

The fire is believed to have been started by human activity.
