The New Year is off to a tragic start for the Quesnel SPCA after their shelter was broken into and robbed of donations Saturday night, according to Mounties.
Thieves broke into the location and stole all the branch’s holiday donations, coin boxes and trashed the office, the shelter said in a statement on their Facebook page.
“Thankfully all of the animals are safe, and no one was hurt but the money that was taken is desperately needed to continue to help homeless, abandoned and abused animals in our community,” the statement said.

The shelter is appealing to the public for help in hopes the money will be returned.
“Those funds are desperately needed by the animals. Quesnel is a small town of friends and family, someone must know who is responsible,” the Facebook post said.
Quesnel Mounties confirmed they are investigating the robbery.
