Police said officers were called to the southbound lanes of Stoney Trail north of McKnight Trail Northeast at about 3:45 a.m. after someone reported a pedestrian being hit by a car.

“Prior to the collision, police were notified of two males who witnesses described as walking into traffic, allegedly trying to stop vehicles,” the Calgary Police Service said in a news release.

Police said investigators believe a car was travelling in the far-right lane of southbound Stoney Trail Northeast when a “pedestrian entered into the path of the” vehicle and was hit by it. Police said the driver stopped his car and stayed at the scene.

A spokesperson for Calgary EMS told Global News that when paramedics arrived at the scene, they attended to a victim they believed is in his 20s or 30s. Police later said he is 19.

“The pedestrian was transported to hospital where they remain in critical condition,” police said, noting that the other pedestrian is a 13-year-old boy who was not hurt.
