Man shot and killed in front of Brampton home, suspects still at large

WATCH: Police are looking for multiple suspects after a brazen daylight shooting in Brampton that claimed the life of a 30-year-old man. It happened in a quiet residential subdivision just as children were leaving for school. Catherine McDonald reports – Apr 5, 2024

Peel Regional Police say a 30-year-old man has died after a shooting in a residential Brampton neighbhourhood Friday morning.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at around 8:30 a.m. on Sudeley Lane, near Wanless Drive and Mississauga Road, police said.

Const. Tyler Bell said a man was found with gunshot wounds and despite life-saving measures by officers and paramedics, he died from his injuries.

Images from the scene show the victim’s body under a tarp on the front porch of a home, but Bell said it is unclear how the victim is connected to the home.

Bell did confirm the shooting took place outside. The victim’s identity was not released.

“A shooting anytime is concerning and completely unacceptable. When we see it during daylight hours, it is more brazen because there are more people out,” Bell said.

Surveillance video shown to Global News from a nearby residence shows a man walking out of the townhome towards a vehicle before he appears to be approached by a gunman and chased.

In the footage, the victim runs back towards the townhouse where 15 shots can be heard in rapid succession.

The shooter is close to the victim who collapses on the stairs of the home before the suspect runs off, in the surveillance video. Seconds later, a red Honda Civic can be seen fleeing eastbound from the scene. The timestamp on the video is 8:34 am.

Bell said a vehicle of interest has been identified: a four-door 2020 Honda Civic that is red in colour and has a gold trim and handles. The licence plate number is DAPK 152.

It was also on file as a stolen vehicle, Bell said.

“A particular note, the front of that vehicle has a yellow racing strap (on) the front right of the vehicle bumper,” Bell said.

He said early information indicates there is more than one suspect.

“The occupants of that vehicle of interest, the red Honda Civic, should be considered armed and dangerous at this point,” Bell said.

He warned if residents spot the vehicle to call 911 immediately and to not approach it.

Bell said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident but it is unknown if the victim and the suspects knew each other.

“We don’t believe that this is a random shooting,” Bell said. ” Whether or not the victim was the intended target will come out in the forthcoming investigation.”

Police are asking anyone with dashcam footage during the morning hours or any witnesses to come forward.
