A fire caused an estimated $270,000 to a Moose Jaw home Saturday afternoon.
Fire crews responded to a call around 1:08 p.m. in the 1300 block of Willow Avenue to a report of a house fire. The fire also caused damaged to a nearby home.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and Moose Jaw Police Service said that it was deemed not to be suspicious.
Aaron Vallejo lived at the home and was in Brooks, Alta. at the time of the fire.
Vallejo said he got a call while he was building a wind farm.
“It’s a beautiful character house, 1912, and that’s why we bought it,” Vallejo said.
He said they were midway through doing home renos, adding insulation to the home.
Vallejo said he lives at the home with his wife and stepson and that they hope to rebuild.
He said his stepson was the only one home at the time and was lucky enough to get out of the building.
“You got to take a minute to reflect, and thank everybody who is safe, and once everybody is safe, then grab your tools and make the world better.”
This isn’t the first time Vallejo has been affected by fire, saying a cottage he had a cottage back in B.C. that was burned due to wildfires.
“You have a good cry and then you clean up and rebuild it.”
