Officer involved shooting follows stabbing in west Edmonton: EPS

Edmonton Police are investigating a chain of events that started with a stabbing at a west Edmonton pub and ended with an officer discharging his firearm.

A spokesperson for the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) said officers responded to reports of an assault outside a pub on Winterburn Road and 107 around 7:30 p.m. where police were told a 36-year-old man  stabbed another man and then fled in a truck.

Police said a “civilian” vehicle pursuing the truck was “rammed by the truck.”

Part of a shopping complex and two roads in the Terra Losa neighbourhood were blocked off.

Officers were able to locate the vehicles near 98A Avenue and 178 Street where a confrontation between police and the driver, which resulted in an officer discharging their firearm.

Police tape surrounded a dark truck and a white SUV, which were touching bumper to bumper on the avenue.

“The suspect was struck and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He was treated and transported to hospital by paramedics,” police said.  “No EPS officers or civilians were injured during this dynamic incident.”

Police said the man who was stabbed sustained serious injuries.

The EPS forensics team was on scene.

EPS said the Alberta Director of Law Enforcement was informed and has directed ASIRT to investigate the officer-involved shooting.
