Man dead after train collides with vehicle in Stony Plain

A 79-year-old man died after a train collided with a vehicle in Stony Plain, Alta., on Monday, according to the RCMP.

Police were called to a crash at 50th Street and 47th Avenue just before 4 p.m.

“Initial investigation reveals that the vehicle entered the crossing as the train approached and was struck,” the RCMP said in a news release.

“The investigation into the circumstances continues.”

Police said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 50th Street railway crossing and the crossing at Highway 779 and Range Road 12 were closed for some time while RCMP investigated.
