Impaired driver rams police vehicles in Coquitlam, B.C.: RCMP

According to police, when officers found the suspect vehicle, a white Ford truck, the truck immediately started ramming multiple police cars – Jan 25, 2024

A heavy police presence was seen in Coquitlam, B.C., late Wednesday for an alarming incident.

Coquitlam RCMP said an impaired driver was reported to be in the area of Cottonwood Avenue, near Whiting Way, around 11 p.m.

According to police, when officers found the vehicle, a white Ford truck, the truck immediately started ramming two police cars.

“The vehicle then reversed down an alleyway at a high rate of speed, striking two parked vehicles in the process. Once the vehicle stopped, the driver was arrested by responding officers,” Cpl. Alexa Hodgins said.

“Two police officers suffered minor injuries.”

The suspect was taken to hospital with minor injuries, police said.

Video from the scene shows the white Ford truck severely damaged with the front driver’s window smashed in, from what appears to be baton strikes.

A flatbed truck was seen taking the suspect vehicle away.

“We are extremely thankful that no one was seriously injured as a result of this erratic driving behaviour,” Hodgins said.
