Housing starts fall again in Saskatoon

SASKATOON – New housing starts in the Saskatoon census metropolitan area (CMA) fell for the second month in-a-row, according to preliminary numbers released by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).

Saskatoon’s starts were 195 units for November compared to 239 in October.

Broken down, there were 107 single detached homes and 88 multiple family units started last month in the Bridge City CMA.

In November 2012, there were 516 starts in the Saskatoon area.

Total urban starts in Saskatchewan so far this year are 6,736 compared to 7,277 over the same period last year.

CMHC’s preliminary housing starts for Canada in November were at 15,330, up slightly from 15,220 units in October.
