October housing starts fall in Saskatoon

SASKATOON – New housing starts in the Saskatoon census metropolitan area (CMA) fell in October, according to preliminary numbers released by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).

Saskatoon’s starts were 239 units for the month compared to 614 units in September.

There were 181 single detached homes and 58 multiple family units started in October.

In October 2012, there were 427 starts in the Saskatoon CMA.

Total urban starts in Saskatchewan so far this year are 6,311 compared to 6,410 over the same period last year.

CMHC’s preliminary housing starts for the country in October were at 15,220, down slightly from 15,451 units in September.
