MD Ambulance sold to Nova Scotia company

SASKATOON – The owner of MD Ambulance says he has “very mixed emotions” after MD Ambulance was sold to a Nova Scotia company.

David Dutchak founded MD Ambulance with his father in 1976, building the company to become a nationally recognized EMS team.

Dutchak said the decision to sell was difficult but one made for the future of the company.

“I believe this move will provide our employees and our community with additional opportunities as part of an innovative, well established company like Medavie EMS.”

MedWest EMS, a subsidiary of Medavie, will take over MD Ambulance on Jan. 1, 2014.

“This is an exciting acquisition for us at Medavie EMS as it represents an opportunity to work with another top-notch EMS service and it gives us greater presence in western Canada,” said Erik Sande, president of Medavie EMS.

“We respect the legacy, depth and quality of service that Dave and the MD Ambulance team bring.”

Medavie operates EMS services in five Canadian provinces and in Massachusetts.
