Bombers announce Mike O’Shea is new head coach

WINNIPEG – The Blue Bombers announced Wednesday that Toronto Argonauts special teams co-ordinator Mike O’Shea is their new head coach.

“O’Shea is a coach to be excited about,” former Blue Bomber Doug Brown tweeted.

O’Shea played 16 seasons in the CFL with the Argonauts and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The 43-year-old is second all-time in tackles in the CFL with 1,154. In 1999, he was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian.

He retired following the 2008 season and in 2010 was named the Argos special teams co-ordinator, where he served the past four seasons and earned a reputation for being as intense on the sidelines as he was as a player.

O’Shea won three Grey Cups as a player and another as a coach.

His relationship with Bombers general manager Kyle Walters goes back to before his CFL career, as the two were teammates at the University Of Guelph in 1992.
