TORONTO – Xbox fans rejoice: The time has almost come to purchase the latest console from Microsoft.

The Xbox One goes on sale Friday in North America, just one week after competitor Sony released the PlayStation 4, with many stores across Canada holding midnight launch events.

Over 100 Future Shop locations across the country will open their doors at midnight, as well as select EB Games stores. All Best Buy locations will be holding launch events.

But, if you don’t have the patience to wait in the cold for the latest video game console, Microsoft will be live streaming its launch events.

Microsoft’s New York Xbox One event will feature a concert from hip hop artists Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and its Los Angeles event will feature appearances from Canadian artist deadmau5 and 7Wallace.

For the past two years, Microsoft’s Xbox has outsold its competitors, but the Xbox One has been re-branded as an “all-in-one” entertainment console.

The device allows users to connect their cable or satellite set-top box and watch TV through the Xbox One, as well as steam context from Netflix. It will have its own channel guide and allow viewers to change channels by voice command – all for only $100 more than the PS4.
