HALIFAX – A 47-year-old Nova Scotia paramedic facing new allegations of sexually assaulting a patient in his care was released from custody Thursday.

James Duncan Keats, of Kentville, was charged by Halifax police Tuesday.

He is charged in connection with an investigation of a Feb. 7 complaint from a 32-year-old woman, who said she had been sexually assaulted while being transported to hospital by ambulance to hospital on Jan. 31.

Under his new undertaking, Keats is free on a $5,000 surety and must obey an overnight curfew and report to police.

Keats was also charged by RCMP last month for another alleged incident involving a 71-year-old Hants County woman May 26 in her home, after paramedics went to assist a different individual in the residence.

The woman alleged that Keats also assaulted her while she was being taken to hospital last September.
