The Saskatchewan Party leadership campaign will have at least three people vying for Premier Brad Wall’s job by Monday. Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Ken Cheveldayoff confirmed he will be launching his campaign at noon on August 28 in Saskatoon.
“I’m going to be stepping down from cabinet in the next number of days,” Cheveldayoff said before his final cabinet meeting in his current role.
The longtime friend of Wall added that he will be revealing a portion of his leadership platform at Monday’s announcement.

“I’ll have a fair bit of policy and information right off the bat, but mostly I’ll be talking about myself and growing up in rural Saskatchewan, Blaine Lake being my hometown for the first 18 years, having a good understanding of small town living, and the benefits and challenges as well,” Cheveldayoff said.

First elected in 2003, Cheveldayoff represents the riding of Saskatoon Willowgrove. He first became a cabinet minister in 2007, serving a wide variety of portfolios including Crown corporations, trade, First Nations & Metis relations and Northern Affairs.
He also served as Government House Leader from 2014 until 2016 when he was appointed Parks Minister.
Cabinet ministers must declare their intention to enter the leadership race by August 28.
