Lathey outdoor pool closed for the year due to storm damage

Damage from a storm on Aug.8 has forced the City of Saskatoon to close the Lathey outdoor pool for the year.

Torrential rain slammed the city’s east side, with up to 57 millimetres reported in some areas, resulting in localized flooding.

There was extensive flooding in the basement where the mechanical equipment is located at Lathey outdoor pool, causing significant damage to the pumps.

Officials had hoped to have repairs complete and the pool open by Aug. 18.

They now say the pool will be closed for the remainder of the year.

Crews are now working to assess the full extent of the damage and are preparing a repair plan to have the pool operational for the 2018 season.

George Ward outdoor pool, which was scheduled to close on Aug. 25 will now remain open until Aug. 31.
