17-year-old male faces multiple charges including possessing stolen property

A 17-year-old male youth is facing multiple charges following a collision early Sunday morning that involved a stolen vehicle.

RCMP say officers responded just before 6 a.m. to a motor vehicle collision on Cow Bay Rd. that involved a stolen 2015 Volkswagen Passat. According to police, a car struck a curb disabling the vehicle. They say the man fled into nearby woods but officers eventually found and arrested him without incident.

Police say the vehicle was determined as having been stolen earlier from a Edgecombe Crescent home in Cole Harbour.

In addition, several items including change and cellphones were taken from unlocked vehicles. One vehicle’s window was also damaged after the suspect broke it and stole knitting supplies.

The 17-year-old will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date to face charges of theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and trespassing at night. Other charges are still pending.

Police are reminding people to lock their vehicles and remove valuables with warm weather now in Halifax, saying it brings more people outside, including thieves.
