Once on scene, officers were able to locate the boat — but no one was inside.

Staff Sgt. Phillip Ross with Cape Breton Regional Police said the boater is a man in his 50s who was out recreational fishing at the time of the incident.

Water rescue units from Albert Bridge, Glace Bay, New Waterford and Sydney Mines are assisting in the search.

So far, officials have not been able to locate the missing person.
