Fog advisory issued for much of Alberta including Calgary, Edmonton

A thick fog settled over Deerfoot Trail in Calgary on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016. Global News

Environment Canada issued a fog advisory covering much of Alberta on Tuesday, warning visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero.

The advisory, issued just before 5 a.m., warned widespread fog had developed across central Alberta.

“Along with the fog, areas of drizzle have developed – and in some regions, where temperatures have dropped below zero, freezing drizzle is occurring,” the advisory said. “Travel will be affected due to the near-zero visibilities and slippery road conditions.”

The widespread fog and drizzle continued through most of central Alberta until late Tuesday morning – and into the early afternoon for regions in east-central Alberta.

Fog advisories are issued when near-zero visibilities in fog are expected or occurring.
