Edward Downey’s case put over 2 weeks in deaths of Sara Baillie, Taliyah Marsman

The case of a Calgary man accused of killing Sara Baillie and her young daughter Taliyah Marsman has been put over for two weeks.

Edward Downey‘s appearance was excused Wednesday morning, but his lawyer Gavin Wolch spoke to the case in court.

Wolch told the judge he received disclosure for the case Tuesday, but was unclear if it contained all evidence in the case or if more is still to come.

Baillie was found dead inside her northwest Calgary home July 11, sparking an Alberta-wide Amber Alert that ended in tragedy.

It’s believed Baillie’s little girl, Taliyah, was killed just hours after Baillie.

The search for the five-year-old came to a heartbreaking end July 14 after Calgary police found her body just outside the city limits.

Later that night, Calgary police charged Downey with two counts of first-degree murder in their deaths.

Downey was previously convicted of drug trafficking, weapons and prostitution-related charges and has ties to organized crime, with affiliations to a high profile Canadian gang that originates out of Nova Scotia.

High profile criminal lawyer Hersh Wolch and his son, Gavin Wolch, make up Downey’s defence team.

Downey, 46, remains in remand.

The case will be back before the courts Sept. 7 but Downey’s appearance will once again be excused.
