Ride the roof on the Grouse Mountain Skyride
The Grouse Mountain Skyride now has an upper level of seating, for those who like to ride with the roof off. Instead of getting in the often over-heated tram, you can now experience it al fresco. Jordan Armstrong has more on Skyride surfing – Jul 14, 2016

If riding inside the cabin of the Grouse Mountain Skyride isn’t enough of a thrill, you have another option.

The mountain is allowing you to ‘surf’ the roof’. But it’s not a free ride — it will come at an additional cost.

Passengers are given helmets and then need to climb some stairs and make themselves comfortable in a seven-person cage atop one of the two Skyride carriages.

The ride lasts about eight minutes and climbs 1,100 metres above the North Shore. At it’s highest point, passengers are 54 metres above ground.

“A lot of people have come up here who have a fear of heights. But once they get up on top and see the cage, and you can’t see the ground… all you have are the mountains, the trees and the beautiful view and the sky, they actually felt fairly comfortable,” said Skyride operator Angie McLeod, who’s logged more than 20,000 trips up and down the mountain.

The thrill isn’t cheap: Adults will pay $79.95, which includes admission to the activities at the top of the mountain. Reservations are required.
