It’s a rough time in the world at the moment, with two black men, Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, shot dead by U.S. police within the last 48 hours.
Celebrities from all genres have reached out with condolences, most sincere and heartfelt, on various social media. Unfortunately, former The O.C. star Mischa Barton tried to do just that, but her Instagram post (now deleted) fell very, very flat.

Pictured on what looks like her own private yacht (even if it’s not, it’s certainly a large, lovely boat), Barton penned a message to Alton Sterling.
Cocktail in hand and wearing a bikini, Barton appears to be contemplating the world as a “precarious place.”
Vitriolic comments underneath Barton’s post came fast and furious.

“Sweet Jesus, this is some tone-deaf rich person s**t right here,” wrote an Instagram user.
“You don’t seem to live in a precarious place right now,” wrote another.
Folks on Twitter had a field day — and this is just a small selection.
Barton has not publicly commented on her post, though judging from the instant deleting of her post, she’s probably rethinking her social-media approach.
