One woman was killed and another was seriously injured in a crash on Deerfoot Trail on Thursday.
It happened between Stoney Trail and Country Hills Boulevard at around 8 p.m.
Police said a green Ford Mustang was travelling southbound when it crossed the median, colliding head on with a northbound Chevrolet Malibu.
The driver of the Mustang, a 67-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Malibu, a 49-year-old woman, was badly injured and had to be extricated from her vehicle. She was transported to the Foothills Medical Centre with life-threatening injuries.
Both drivers were the only occupants in their vehicles.
The crash caused the temporary closure of a portion of both northbound and southbound Deerfoot Trail.
Police are investigating the possibility one of the drivers was suffering a medical emergency when the crash occurred.
Editor’s Note: Although EMS originally indicated the deceased was a man in his 50s, police later confirmed she was a 67-year-old woman.
