Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating a collision involving a Peel Regional Police cruiser and a car that sent two people to hospital in serious condition.
According to a SIU statement, the cruiser was travelling south on Main Street North in Brampton before 6 a.m. when it collided with a Honda Civic just south of Williams Parkway.
The 20-year-old driver of the Honda car and a 27-year-old passenger were taken to Brampton Civic Hospital and subsequently transferred to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto.
The officer was taken to Brampton Civic Hospital with minor injuries.
The intersection was closed for several hours as investigators reviewed the scene.
The SIU is an independent enforcement agency that investigates incidents involving police that have resulted in death, serious injury or alleged sexual assault.
The organization is asking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.
