BRANDON- Less than 24 hours removed from heartbreak, the UBCO Heat got back to their winning ways and they have some new hardware to show for it.

The university women’s team became the school’s first volleyball medal winners after they beat the UBC Thunderbirds in the bronze-medal game Sunday.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The Heat finished their first national tournament with an impressive 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-19) victory over the fifth-ranked T-Birds.

It was a great bounce back performance after the team dropped a tough four-setter to the Toronto Varsity Blues.

Kailin Jones, who was named the Heat’s player of the match, picked up 11 digs in her last CIS game.

The Varsity Blues will play for the gold late Sunday against the defending champs, Trinity Western.
